Kalahandi University named after Maa Manikeswari

- Kalahandi University is now named Maa Manikeshwari University in honor of the goddess of the district.
- The university was established in 1960, and in March 2019, the state government granted unitary university status to the Government Autonomous College, Bhawanipatna.
- As of September 2019, Kalahandi University became an affiliating university.
- It supervises over 50 colleges in the Kalahandi and Nuapada districts.
- The university provides a comprehensive range of academic offerings, including 23 undergraduate and 18 postgraduate programs.

- Collaboration with 6 public sector banks (SBI, PNB, UBI, UCO Bank, Bank of India, Bank of Baroda) for micro bank branches.
- Addresses challenges in 65% of gram panchayats lacking brick-and-mortar banks.
- “AMA Bank” offers essential services like deposits, loans, DBTs, & social security.
- Doorstep banking for seniors, differently-abled, and pregnant women.
- Phased roll-out to cover all 4373 villages by March 2024.
- The state government provides rent-free space, and bears initial expenses; Rs. 500 Cr. provision for the scheme.
- Patnaik claimed that the AMA Bank plan, which is part of the 5T effort, is the first of its kind in the country.
